Starting off as a simplistic cartoon spin-off of The Tracey Ullman Show, The Simpsons became a widely successful satire of modern society. Throughout the years since its debut (1989), it has been a television mainstay; whether creator Matt Groening parodied an oil spill or sent Bart Simpson on a wacky adventure with his friends, it remained one of FOX's top-rated shows.
